Position Details

The Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society (CFCSS) is seeking a part-time Caregiver Support Lead to provide direct, meaningful support to family caregivers across the Cowichan Valley. This role focuses on relationship-based support that includes support group facilitation, individual emotional support, sharing practical resources, and supporting caregivers as they navigate the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, professional caregiver support in one-to-one and group settings (in person, by phone, and digitally).
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries, ensuring safety, confidentiality, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Facilitate caregiver support groups, communicating group expectations and maintaining a safe, respectful environment in line with CFCSS guidelines.
  • Receive and manage referrals, maintaining consistent contact and follow-up with clients.
  • Recognise caregiver distress and burnout, report concerns promptly to a supervisor and connect caregivers to appropriate supports.
  • Collaborate with referral sources, community partners, and facility contacts.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive case notes, including required quantitative and qualitative data, using CFCSS systems.
  • Participate actively in team meetings, communications, and community learning events.
  • Maintain up-to-date calendars, appointments, and reports using CFCSS platforms.
  • Uphold the highest standards of privacy, confidentiality, and ethical conduct at all times.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Post-secondary education with a background in social services, community health, social work, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Exceptional relational skills with an aptitude for connection and deep listening.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a fluctuating caseload, and maintain a flexible schedule.
  • A commitment to integrity.
  • Cultural humility and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, community-based practice.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Google Drive, Gmail, and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to navigate data management systems, complete accurate data entry, and efficiently conduct research using via the internet.
  • Physical ability to set up and take down meeting spaces.
  • Knowledge of community resources and Island Health services for caregivers is an asset.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (mileage allowance provided; winter tires required in season).
  • Ability to work both on-site and remotely, with a private home workspace.
  • Availability to travel to off-site meetings as required.
  • Responsible use and care of CFCSS-issued computer equipment.
  • Successful vulnerable sector criminal record check.
  • Physically and emotionally able to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ability and willingness to follow Island Health immunisation policies.
