Heather grew up in Manitoba, training to be a nurse at Children's Hospital in Winnipeg and at the University of Manitoba. After teaching nursing for a while she moved to a government position as Senior Consultant for Urban Hospitals, and for all community health centres in the province.
Moving to Vancouver Island in 1987, Heather worked for the BC Ministry of Health as Manager for Evaluation of all programs. In 1989 she became Health Director for Cowichan Tribes, a position that she held until it was taken over by a band member in 1999. She now works as a private consultant in Community Health.
Heather, and her husband who is retiring, will soon be returning to Manitoba to be closer to their grandchildren who are pretty special.
